In 2024, roughly 2.0 million people will have been diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Zooming out to a 19-year span (between 2001-19), an alarming 12,951,044 were diagnosed with cancer.
Our mission is to build a familiar and trustable national system for the emotional support of cancer patients. There are a variety of organizations working on this problem, however, despite their committed efforts, the statistics paint a disappointing picture (based on publicly available information). For example, in 17 years, Imerman’s Angels, a wonderful organization matching patients with survivors, has made just over 36,000 matches—a fraction of the potential impact. Another example is the Cancer Hope Network, who for more than 40 years, provided connections and resources to only 50,000 or so individuals facing cancer
With nearly 13 Million (2001-2019) cancer survivors needing emotional support, there are two main barriers stopping existing support orgs from reaching their full potential:
- A lack of familiarity/trust of the support organization due to either lack of national or local presence.
- Each org is individually working to solve the same problem, essentially “reinventing the wheel”!
This is a national problem that requires a NATIONAL SOLUTION!
Our mission is to build a national organization with local chapters, keeping support still local and comfortable for patients, while making it nationally renowned. We plan to build this by either A) uniting existing orgs together to make this system or B) building it from the ground up!
With a national outreach campaign, we hope to share our mission with health advocates, legislators, support leaders, patients, and survivors, ultimately garnering as much support as possible. Then, we plan to take the endorsements of this campaign to existing orgs, showing them that this national model is something the community wants. This is a people-centered problem, and therefore must be solved with a people-powered solution!
Our ultimate goal with this campaign is to reach President Biden and his Cancer Moonshot team. Help us achieve this today and endorse our campaign!
